Tenth Sunday In Ordinary Time

Elijah heals the son of a widow.  She praises the Lord that her son had been healed.  Jesus raised from the dead the son of a widow of Nain.  All were amazed and glorify God.  It is this God who revealed his to St. Paul that he might proclaim him to the Gentiles.

A Note From Fr. Al

My white blood cells are very low and chemo has not been possible.  I am very susceptible to infections.  If sick, please stay away.
Peace,
Fr. Al

Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

Melchizedek, priest of God Most High, offers bread and wine as a blessing upon Abram. Jesus fulfills this offering, giving us his own Body and Blood under the forms of bread and wine. This is our hunger satisfied in abundance as we make our pilgrim way to the heavenly banquet feast.

A Note from Fr. Al,
Thank you to Msgr. John Steiner for taking my place this weekend. The three feast days of Pentecost, Holy Trinity and The Body and Blood of Christ remind us of the great gift of our awesome God. These three feasts at the end of Easter and the restarting of Ordinary Time, help us recall the gift of God as we experience Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Christ is our life giving gift. Do you see the value to gather weekly to receive this gift of life? Why would we miss?
Peace,
Fr. Al

Thoughts on Stewardship
In today's Gospel, the disciples suggest that Jesus disperse the crowd so that they might individually seek food and lodging. The miracle of the feeding of the five thousand is Jesus' powerful reminder that when we share our gifts in His name there is always more than enough!

Most Holy Trinity

We are at peace with God our Father through our Lord Jesus Christ. God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. This Spirit, who is Wisdom itself, will lead us into all truth. How wonderful the name of our God in all the earth.

A Note from Fr. Al,
Thank you to Bishop Skylstad for taking my place this weekend. We ended the great season of Easter last week with the feast of Pentecost. We now start again with "Ordinary Time." Ordinary Time does not celebrate any particular mystery of God, but rather all the mysteries of God.
This week, we celebrate the mystery of the Holy Trinity. The Holy Trinity is unique to the Christian faith and revealed to us by God. Only Christians have been revealed this inner being of God: Our God is ONE God, yet we experience this unity through trinity. We call this unity of Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We grasp at the truth of this revealed reality of God, as it is difficult for us to understand. But being made in the image and likeness of God, we too experience unity as necessary for life. We need each other as much as we need God to live.
As we experience ourselves within the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity, we bring our lives in unity with God.
Peace,
Fr. Al

Thoughts on Stewardship
Today's psalm reminds us that we have been crowned with glory and honor and given over the works of God's hands. But we must be good stewards, for the Lord will surely hold us accountable for the use of those gifts!

Pentecost

All of us have been baptized into one and the same Spirit, and live by the same Spirit. The Spirit, the Advocate, was given as gift to the disciples to remind them of all that Jesus said and did "to renew the face of the earth".

A Note from Fr. AI,
Thank you to Msgr. John Steiner for helping this weekend. Thank you also to all our volunteers. As Jesus is quoted as saying, "Blessed are those who give rather than receive." It is all our volunteers who give of their time, talent and/or treasure that makes them blessed indeed! May the gift of the Holy Spirit, enlighten our hearts to offer our gifts to God.
Happy Pentecost,
Fr. Al

Thoughts on Stewardship
One miracle of Pentecost was that, despite their diversity, each listener heard God's word in his or her own language. The meaning for stewardship is that, by sharing the gifts poured out on us by the Holy Spirit, we will be empowered to meet the needs of our brothers and sisters, whatever they may be.

Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord

Jesus commissions his disciples to baptize in his name, reminding them that he is always present through his Spirit. Jesus ascended to his Father amid cries of gladness, entering into the heavenly sanctuary. We are to be his witnesses, mindful of the hope we are called.

A Note from Fr. Al,
Happy Mother's Day! Our prayers go to our mother, either living or deceased, in thanksgiving for the gift of life. Thank you!
Thank you to Msgr. John Steiner for helping this weekend. My chemo process is 3 weeks off then 3 days of chemo. I start my second week off chemo now. I continue to celebrate daily Mass and parish activities as best I can, with substitutes on the weekend.
Thank you for your prayers.
Happy Ascension,
Fr. Al

Thoughts on Stewardship
This Feast of Ascension reminds us of Jesus needing to leave us so that the Holy Spirit will come. This mixture of leaving and receiving is the work of a good steward who realizes that in order to receive we must give something. What is the Lord calling you to give in order to receive?

Sixth Sunday of Easter

By listening attentively to the Spirit promised by Jesus, the early Church resolves the question whether Gentile converts need to observe certain Jewish ritual practices. All are called to dwell in the heavenly Jerusalem, founded on the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

Thoughts on Stewardship
Today’s reading from Revelation offers a vision of the City of God, the new Jerusalem. “But,” the bishops’ pastoral on stewardship reminds us, “that life to come is in continuity with this present life through the human goods, the worth human purposes, which people foster now.”

New Ambry Installed
This past week our new “ambry” was installed in the Baptismal area. This oak cupboard will be used to store our three holy oils used for sacraments. It was created by Jim Bertramson in honor of Father Al. It has two decorative features: the San Damiano Cross and the “Holy Spirit Window”. The San Damiano Cross contains images with special meaning to the actual cross - Jesus, five major witnesses to His crucifixion, two soldiers, angels, patron Saints, and at the top is the right hand of God. The “Holy Spirit Window” was made by Louis Comfort Tiffany in 1895. It depicts a dove (The Holy Spirit) descending among the folds of brilliant sunlight. This miniature reproduction is done in enameled glass. Many of you will recognize this image from our “Living the Eucharist” prayer card.

Fifth Sunday of Easter

At the conclusion of their missionary journey, Paul and Barnabas tell the Antioch community all that the Lord had accomplished in their preaching the kingdom of God. This kingdom, to be marked by our love for one another, will reach its fulfillment in new heavens and a new earth.

 A Note from Fr. Al,

I would like to thank Fr. Ken Krall, S.J. for taking my place this weekend. I am sure that the Jesuits are beaming to have Pope Francis, a Jesuit, one of their own.
Jesus' command to love one another is challenging! What makes it most difficult is that Jesus asks us to love others in the same way he has loved us. When we love in this way, we show everyone else we are a disciple of Jesus. It is a scandal to the whole church when we fall short of this love. How can we love as Jesus loved?
Happy Easter,
Fr. Al

Thoughts on Stewardship
In today's Gospel, Jesus gives His disciples - and us - a new commandment: "Love one another." Good stewards who spend their time and talents in service to others are well on their way to fulfilling this commandment.
